The First Californians

WELCOME!!

Today, you're the anthropologist! Artifacts have recently been uncovered at a series of archaeological digs around California as part of an ambitious effort to learn about the cultures of the first Californians, the Native Americans who lived on these lands for centuries before the appearance of Europeans.

Due to recent budget cuts, the state anthropologists are understaffed and need some help in identifying these. They've called upon you, the Francis Parker Fourth Grade, to help them!

Your mission:

Identify the artifact as best you can - form a hypothesis as to what you think it must be
Scour established literature and Websites to research what we know about these tribes and determine if you identify the artifact
Record additional information about that aspect of their culture and daily life
Draw conclusions: summarize what you have learned about that tribe's culture
Provide a link where the researchers can go if they need more information
